A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 19-year-old student at a TVET college in Mthatha.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, 22 February 2026, following an incident that allegedly took place at a student residence on Saturday, 14 February at around 06:00.
According to police, the victim was drinking alcohol with a group of people at the residence when she allegedly passed out. She later woke up with signs of possible sexual assault.
Police have taken forensic samples from other persons of interest as part of the investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 February 2026, on a charge of rape.
Investigations are ongoing.
