A total of 26 suspects are appearing in the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court today, 7 April 2026, following a 48-hour police crackdown in the area.
The suspects face charges ranging from murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and drugs.
Police operations included a tracing operation that led to 10 arrests, raids on four unlicensed liquor outlets where fines were issued and goods confiscated, and drug-related arrests by the Barkly East Mounted Unit.
In a separate incident, three suspects were arrested after police discovered three unlicensed firearms and ammunition in a bakkie stopped in Komkhulu. Additional arrests were made for rape, assault, and possession of unlicensed ammunition.
Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Zinikele Freddie commended officers, saying the operations are key to improving community safety.
