34-year-old husband arrested for drug-facilitated sexual assault and child pornography in gauteng

A 34-year-old husband has been arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Boksburg for drug-facilitated sexual assault and distributing child sexual abuse material.

The suspect allegedly drugged and raped his wife over a period of five years, recording explicit videos of the assaults while she appeared sedated or unconscious. These videos were reportedly shared on a private social media channel without her consent.

The arrest followed intelligence received by SAPS’ national Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) team from the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the British High Commission in Cape Town. Investigators used innovative forensic techniques to locate the suspect, with support from the US Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the US Embassy.

During the operation, multiple electronic devices containing images and videos of drug-facilitated sexual assault and child sexual abuse material were seized. On the same day, a 48-year-old associate in Germiston, reportedly involved in similar crimes, was also arrested. Police recovered his electronic devices and two unlicensed firearms.

Both suspects are due to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on 27 March 2026, facing charges including sexual assault, possession of unlicensed firearms, distribution and manufacturing of child sexual abuse material, and contravention of Section 16 of the Cyber Crimes Act for sharing intimate images without consent.

Investigations and forensic analysis of the suspects’ devices are ongoing, with SAPS emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in uncovering and disrupting these criminal activities.
