The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating two separate domestic-related incidents that occurred on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, in Mopani and Sekhukhune Districts.
In Wisani village, Ritavi policing area, Mopani District, a 48-year-old woman was allegedly shot by her 53-year-old husband following an argument at their home around 05:30. Police received a call from a hospital reporting a woman with gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with two gunshot wounds to the stomach.
The suspect was traced and arrested in Wisani village and is expected to appear in Giyani Magistrate Court, facing charges of attempted murder. The firearm used in the attack remains missing.
In Ga-Maila Segolo village, Sekhukhune District, a 50-year-old man was killed following a violent altercation with his wife and her family around 01:00. The man allegedly attacked his wife, their three-year-old daughter, and his 70-year-old father-in-law with a sharp object. The father-in-law defended himself, fatally injuring the attacker, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
The surviving victims are receiving medical care at a local hospital. Investigations are ongoing, including three counts of attempted murder and one case of murder.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed condolences, urging those experiencing domestic challenges to seek help from social workers, psychologists, professionals, and traditional authorities. “We will do everything in our power to prevent, investigate, and combat crime to ensure justice is served,” she said.
