ActionSA MP Dereleen James has filed criminal charges against Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe for allegedly misleading Parliament over the origin of two luxury vehicles linked to the ANC Women’s League. The vehicles, valued at nearly R1 million, were reportedly “donated” to the league, a claim now questioned by senior ANC officials.
James says the vehicles were allegedly from unknown Chinese donors. Tolashe’s party has denied any knowledge of them. The matter has been referred to Parliament’s Ethics Committee, and James has also lodged a complaint with the Public Protector, urging President Cyril Ramaphosa to act swiftly.
“We are guided by PRECCA, the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, which is the basis of the charges we will lay,” James said. She added that Tolashe “definitely failed to declare these vehicles” and described the minister’s conduct as “running amok.”
The Ethics Committee is expected to investigate the matter further.
