The Johannesburg Magistrate Court has postponed the pre-trial hearing of alleged kingpin and businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala to 6 February.
The controversial businessman is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, actress Tebogo Thobejane.
During the court proceedings, Matlala’s lawyer, Advocate Annelene van den Heever, informed the judge about the challenges she experiences when consulting with her client because of the distance. Matlala was moved from the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre (C-Max) to the super maximum eBongweni Correctional Facility in Kokstad. Heever also alleged that her consultations with Matlala were recorded.
Acting judge William Karma advised Heever to approach the Department of Correctional Services to ask for Matlala to be moved back in Gauteng.
“It appears to be prejudicial and not in the interest of justice that you are inconvenienced to this extent,”
Judge Karma postponed the case to 6 February to allow Matlala to be moved closer.
