ANC Alfred Nzo Regional Chairperson Tsileng Sobuthongo set to take up Umshini Wakhe as Executive Mayor

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Alfred Nzo District is preparing to install its Regional Chairperson, Tsileng Sobuthongo, as the new Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality.

The announcement was made by ANC Provincial Chairperson Oscar Mabuyane during the party’s January 8th celebrations held in eMaXesibeni. Mabuyane confirmed that Sobuthongo has been identified to take over the mayoral position following the conclusion of interviews for the new Executive Mayor.

“I have spoken to the chairperson of this region, Comrade Tsi, and since the interviews for the Executive Mayor have been conducted, she must assume her position before the end of the week. She needs to familiarise herself with the challenges facing the people of this region,” Mabuyane said.

ANC Regional Spokesperson Lungisile Mzanywa further confirmed that formal processes to appoint Sobuthongo will be concluded this week. He said a special council meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday to officially swear her in.

“A special council will be convened on Tuesday to swear in the ANC Regional Chairperson, Tsileng Sobuthongo, as the new Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality,” said Mzanywa.

Sobuthongo is expected to take over from Councillor Nomasomi Mshuqwana, who was sworn in as Executive Mayor following the resignation of Vukile Mhlelembana.
