The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed that it will go ahead with its provincial elective conference despite a court interdict challenging the event.
The party says it has followed all required procedures, noting that only a few branches are currently embroiled in internal disputes.
The conference will see Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane challenged by former regional chairperson Lulama Ngcukayithobi for leadership positions within the province.
The ANC’s leadership emphasized that the elective process will proceed in accordance with party rules and the court’s ruling does not halt the conference.
The outcome of the conference is expected to have significant implications for the party’s provincial leadership ahead of national elections.
