Appeal court dismisses challenge to 2022 SAFA presidential election

The Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa has dismissed a legal challenge seeking to overturn the 2022 presidential election results of the South African Football Association.

The appeal was brought by Ria Ledwaba and Solly Mohlabeng, who have repeatedly contested the outcome since their defeat in the SAFA presidential race. According to the African Football Association, the latest ruling marks the sixth failed legal attempt by the pair over the past three years.

Earlier rulings by the Pretoria High Court found that Ledwaba and Mohlabeng were no longer members of SAFA and therefore lacked the legal standing to challenge the association’s electoral processes.

SAFA said the judgment reinforces the credibility of its electoral system and allows the organisation to continue focusing on developing football and promoting unity through sport in South Africa.
