Eastern Cape Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose has urged motorists to exercise heightened caution following a fatal collision on the N2 between Kei and Kugompo City that has led to significant traffic disruptions.
According to Binqose, the crash involved a timber-laden truck and a Hyundai i20, which collided head-on. The driver of the light motor vehicle was declared dead at the scene, while the truck driver escaped with minor injuries.
Emergency personnel and law enforcement remain on site, with the affected stretch of road expected to stay closed for several hours as crews work to clear the wreckage and ensure the area is safe.
Binqose advised motorists to plan ahead and make use of alternative routes. Travelers heading toward King William’s Town and Gqeberha can use the R63 via Bhisho, turning off after Kei Cuttings near Thomson Farm from the Mthatha side. Those traveling to Komga and Port Alfred are being diverted via Chaffle Road, reconnecting with the N2 at Gonubie.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic directives and remaining vigilant while navigating the detours. Further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
