Bafana Bafana suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Panama national football team in an international friendly played in front of a sold-out crowd in Cape Town on Tuesday evening.
The match was marked by a lack of clinical finishing from both sides, as several chances went begging in an evenly contested first half that ended goalless.
Panama broke the deadlock in the 54th minute through José Córdoba, who found the back of the net to give the visitors the advantage.
Bafana Bafana responded positively, with Mbekezeli Mbokazi levelling matters in the 64th minute with a well-taken left-footed strike that reignited hopes for the home side.
However, Panama proved resolute and regained the lead later in the match, with Jiovany Ramos scoring what turned out to be the decisive goal, as the visitors held firm defensively to secure the win.
Despite the defeat, the encounter offered valuable lessons for Bafana Bafana, particularly in converting chances and maintaining defensive discipline, as preparations continue for upcoming international fixtures.
