South Africa – Coach Desiree Ellis has called up a 24-woman Banyana Banyana squad for international friendlies against Algeria on 14 and 17 April 2026.
The matches form part of a rebuilding phase after South Africa finished fourth at last year’s WAFCON, losing to Ghana on penalties. With the continental tournament now set for July–August, Ellis is using the friendlies to fine-tune her squad ahead of the 2026 WAFCON and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Captain Refiloe Jane will spearhead the team, bringing her experience from TS Galaxy Queens to lead South Africa’s preparations.
