The bail hearing for Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe(28), son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze(33), has been postponed to 11 March following a power outage at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg. This marks the second consecutive delay for the pair, whose hearing was initially scheduled earlier this week but was pushed back due to outstanding documents and technicalities.
Chatunga Mugabe and Matonhodze were first arrested on 19 February 2026 at Mugabe’s Hyde Park residence after a shooting incident involving a 23-year-old employee. They face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and illegal possession of a firearm.
The postponement underscores ongoing logistical challenges at the court and delays in processing high-profile cases.
