Chippa United edge Siwelele to end winless run

Chippa United bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Siwelele FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Tuesday evening.

After a tense first half in which Siwelele looked the more threatening side, the Chilli Boys struck against the run of play in the 57th minute. A delivery from the left flank caused problems in the box, and Sinoxolo Kwayiba reacted quickest to latch onto the loose ball and fire past goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, handing the hosts a crucial lead.

Chippa showed resilience in the closing stages, absorbing pressure from the visitors to secure all three points and snap a frustrating five-match winless run. The result will come as a major boost for the Eastern Cape outfit as they look to climb further away from danger in the standings.

Siwelele, meanwhile, were left to rue missed opportunities after controlling large spells of the encounter but failing to find a breakthrough when it mattered most.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, 11 April. Chippa United will host Polokwane City as they aim to build on their momentum, while Siwelele FC will look to respond when they welcome AmaZulu FC.
