Three members of the South African Police Services appeared before the magistrate court of Matatiele yesterday (Thursday 23rd) for charges of corruption. It is said that Sergeant Luyanda Xinise 40, Constable Ratihang Mohabi 30 and Lwazi Sihlangule who are working at Maluti Police Station were arrested by the Serious Corruption Investigative Unit on Wednesday afternoon. The three were formally charged for fraud and corruption in Matatiele magistrate court. It is alleged that a 33-year-old man who was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Maluti during 2018, visited the Maluti police station during August 2018 to request information and a sketch plan of the accident. He did so with the intention of claiming from the Road accident Fund. Xinishe allegedly demanded from him a bribe of R1000.00 in exchange for the report. The 33 year old man contacted the Hawkes, and members of the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit commenced with their investigation into the matter. As members were conducting the arrest two members of the public came forward and reported that Xinishe and other members of Maluti Police Station demanded a bribe of R1500.00 from them in order to terminate their case of attempted murder and negligence of fire arm.
