51-year-old Pastor accused of marrying a 15-year-old remains in custody
Eastern Cape’s 51-year-old pastor together with a 66–year-old woman, who stands accused of arranging a marriage between the pastor and her 15-year-old granddaughter appeared briefly in the Libode Magistrate Court on Friday.
The pastor is charged is statutory rape, statutory assault and abduction. According to NPA Regional Spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, the grandmother was granted a bail of R500; meanwhile, the pastor is remanded in custody.
The pair was arrested on Tuesday after the teenager was rescued by the police from the residence of the pastor in KwaMlomo village in Libode. The victim is in a safe place.
The pastor is expected to appear in court on July, 8 for bail application.
