It’s confirmed that Alfred Nzo District Municipality has registered the first positive case of Coronavirus. In a statement Alfred Nzo District Municipality Executive Mayor Sixolile Mehlomakhulu said “It is with sadness that after a long time trying to safeguard the people of Alfred Nzo District Municipality from contaminating the deadly virus, we have now received confirmation that a middle aged person has tested positive for the Covid 19 virus”. He said at the moment they are unable to divulge full details of the case but assured the people of Alfred Nzo that the person is isolated and is receiving relevant attention. Mehlomakhulu continued in a statement that steps are taken to ensure the people of the affected area are protected. “Mass screening and testing is being conducted by the Department of Health Officials to all individuals in the hot spot areas and we urge people to allow Health Officials to test them in order to curb further spread of the deadly virus. Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Province has 417 confirmed corona virus cases. According to the latest figures released by the National Health Ministry six deaths have been recorded in the province. The provincial breakdown is as follows Nelson Mandela Metro 194, Buffalo City Metro 135, O.R.Tambo 29 Chris Hani 37,Sarah Baartman 15, Amathole 5, Joe Gqabi 1, Alfred Nzo 1. The chairperson of the Union Denosa confirmed to the informer that the infected person is quarantined at Madzikane Hospital in Mount Frere. With Nelson Mandela Bay the epicentre of the virus in the Province Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is finalising the appointment of the Nelson Mandela Health District Manager at the chief director level. A total of 57 professionals and enrolled nurses are to be contracted for the duration of the Covid 19 reduction efforts. Fifteen additional vehicles will be allocated to the Metro to expedite, screening, testing and tracing. A total of 1.5m surgical Masks,200 000 pairs of gloves,1,800visors and 28500 N95 masks have been received from the National Department of Health. Gomba has appealed to the members of the public to follow the Covid 19 guidelines which include remaining at home, washing hands and social distancing
