Body parts found in Sekhutlong identified as those belonging to Malerato Ralesenyeho
The body parts that were rescued from the mouth of a dog in Sekhutlong, Matateiel are suspected to be those of Malerato Ralesenyeho. The gruesome discovery was made a week ago by children who were playing after noticing an unusual object held by a dog. Upon discovery of a human leg, they alerted the neighbours who started searching and discovered another leg.
The family says they got a call saying Malerato’s body parts were discovered being eaten by a dog. “We were shocked when we discovered body parts all over. Some of the body parts were discovered next door. It looks like she was killed before because there is blood on the doorstep. We called the police and they came and assisted us as we searched for other body parts but we discovered nothing. We are still waiting for a police report so we can start with funeral arrangements,” said MaTeboho Motsoko, who is related to the deceased.
Nontuthuzelo Titus who is a community member says their safety is compromised as community members. “This attack is really shocking to us as women in this area. We are not safe. It looks like the perpetrators of these crimes are targeting older women who stay by themselves. We believe that it must be someone from outside this area as we haven’t seen such a thing in our area,” said Titus.
Titus called on the police and SANDF to do patrols and be visible in communities to ensure civilians safety. Poko Ntalenyane who is the headman of Sekhutlong says they are still shocked by the discovery. “This is the first incident and it came as a shock. This incident is similar to what happened in Pontsheng. No heard anything. We were shocked by the discovery. We were actually assisted by dogs to make more discovery of other body parts” says Ntalenyane. Some parts of the body are still missing.
Police are continuing with their investigation.
