Defence lawyer goes awol, Magistrate postpones murder accused’s case

Magistrate Court tells the murder accused that his attorney must account for why he was absent during court proceedings on Monday, 2021. Boitumelo Khitleli finally appeared briefly at the Maluti Magistrate Court after a delay of two hours waiting for a state prosecutor. He was anticipated to plead guilty or not to the charges levelled against him. His request to enter into a plea bargain has been dragging for over months now. The 26-year-old during his past court appearances intended to plead guilty to two of the three charges levelled against him by the state.
The suspect was arrested last year October for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Mpharwane Makumane.

Magistrate court adjourned his case to 18 August 2021, to allow his attorney to explain to the court why he was absent on Monday.

This happens despite his lawyer being present for another case that seated before Khitleli’s.

Khitleli is facing three accounts of criminal charges, including murder, attempted murder and theft.
