An Eastern Cape family under the Ntabankulu Local Municipality is reeling with shock after their one year eight months old grand son was found dead yesterday morning. According to a family member Thandi Loni little Aqhama disappeared from home at ward 5 Siqithini village near Ntabankulu last Wednesday.
Aqhama’s body was found by the members of community near the river a distance away from home. According to some community members little Aqhama was strangled and died before he was dragged to the area where he was found. Dog Unit which was invited to search by Ntabankulu Police conducted a search on Thursday but could not find anything.
Thandi Loni, a sister to the child’s mother said during the disappearance Aqhama was left with a 13 year old boy as her aunt was out to fetch water from the river which is a distance away from home. When she came back the child was not at home even the 13 year old did not know where the child was. “The family is distraught and feeling not safe because it might happen that the person who did this is known to the family”, she said.
Police have opened murder docket and investigations are continuing. Mayor of Ntabankulu Local Municipality Cllr Tseleng Sobuthongo sent word of condolences to the family.
