The MEC of the Department of Education in the Eastern Cape, Fundile Gade has expressed sadness following the passing of the provincial’s Head of Department, Themba Kojana. According to the MEC, Kojane’s passing was confirmed by his family in the early hours of Thursday morning. His passing comes after he was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday evening.
In a media statement released, the MEC said Kojane passed on after working tirelessly to improve the performance of the Eastern Cape schools while serving as its Head of Department.” We are facing an eye of a storm and we have lost a great leader who heatedly dedicated his energy to transform the sector. This has literally shattered us as the sector and the province. This comes at a time when the Department had put its hope in its leadership for the realization of quality public education. Kojana served as the catalyst of the Education Transformation Plan, which actually gave upward trajectory of the improvement of results in the Eastern Cape and the efficiency of the systems we have.” said MEC
