Electric cable kills two people in Matatiele

An electric cable has left two people dead and two injured at Matatiele, Pholile Village in the Eastern Cape Province over the Easter Week end.

One of the villagers who is also a cousin to one of the injured people, Simphiwe Jwili said, Sibusiso Ntuli was on her way home on Good Friday evening when he was struck by an electric cable which was lying crossing the road.

We were phoned by police from Pholile Police Station telling us that our cousin is lying there crying with pains. When we arrived, the ambulance was already there and he was taken to Tayler Bequest Hospital. He said, his cousin’s clothes were torn apart and his legs were bleeding with wounds.

Another villager was Vuyani Ntliziyo, a brother to another victim who died on the same spot. Ntliziyo told The Informer that his brother, Bulelani was visiting a friend at a nearby village. On his way back he was struck by the same cable and he died on the scene.

When the Informer visited the place, an electric pole belonging to Eskom was lying down causing the electric cables to cross the road. It was not easy for people to see the cables leaving the communities in danger.  When The Informer was about to leave the area Eskom technicians were in the scene to install the electric pole. Eskom has not responded to questions pertaining the matter.
