Flagstaff Square celebrates three years of community commitment with exciting prizes and initiatives

Flagstaff Square, the largest and first shopping complex in Flagstaff, is marking its third anniversary since opening in 2021 with a host of celebrations and customer rewards starting from 28 October 2024. The mall has consistently prioritized its community, demonstrating a strong commitment to investing in local development and improving the lives of Flagstaff residents.

Over the past three years, Flagstaff Square has implemented various community outreach programs, including its annual “Back to School” campaign each January, which supports vulnerable children by providing essential items such as school uniforms, shoes, and hygiene products like toothbrushes, school bags, and sanitary towels.

In addition, the complex runs a monthly donation initiative where they identify disadvantaged households, particularly child-headed homes, to provide them with basic necessities. “We sponsor a R5000 voucher to cater for their needs on a monthly rotational basis,” shared Centre Manager Luvo Tobela. The shopping center also hosts competitions throughout the year, offering shoppers the chance to win vouchers from selected stores during special events such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day.

Moreover, Flagstaff Square collaborates with local non-profit organizations to empower youth across various disciplines. In line with this, during Mandela Month, they partner with the local SAPS to organize a two-week soccer and netball tournament under the theme “Sport Against Crime.” The event not only rewards winning teams with prizes but also involves community leaders and police in educating youth about the dangers of criminal activities.

Recognizing the community’s struggle with access to clean water, Flagstaff Square is in the process of constructing a borehole for the Esigubudwini community. Although the project faced delays after solar panels were stolen shortly after installation began, plans are in place to overcome these challenges and complete the borehole project.

Luvo Tobela emphasized, “We are determined to find ways to finish this project while implementing measures to prevent further theft.” With its focus on community support and development, Flagstaff Square continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Flagstaff residents as it celebrates this significant milestone
