Four remain in custody for killing a police offficer

A case of four suspects accused of stoning a police officer to death has been postponed to next week Tuesday.

Siphumeze Mancipa, Lungisani Fantein, Sibongan-konke Gagane, and Khanyisa Mdedelwa appeared in Tsolo Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape on Monday in connection with the stoning death of a police officer over the weekend.

They were charged with the murder of Warrant Officer Inani Mbombo.

It is alleged that Warrant Officer Inani Mbombo was chased down by community members after shooting and wounding a patron in Philakuzenzela Tavern, Ntshiqo Location at Tsolo, following a heated argument on Saturday.

In a statement, Hawks EC spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said the argument is said to have culminated in the policeman shooting and injuring the patron he had an argument with.

“It was further revealed that community members chased the policeman as he fled from the tavern.  Community members caught and disarmed the officer not far from the tavern.  It is further reported that all four suspects stoned and killed the policeman on the scene,” Mhlakuvana said.
