MATATIELE MUNICIPALITY ROLLS OUT FREE PUBLIC WI-FI!
Matatiele Local Municipality successfully rolled out free public Wi-Fi in strategic areas in and around Matatiele and Maluti towns.
The strategic areas with Free Public Wi-Fi hotspots are Matatiele Town Hall, Coffee Pot rank, Boxer rank, Bus rank, Maluti taxi rank and Maluti Civic Centre.
This comes after the Human Rights Council of the United Nation’s General Assembly in 2017 declared access to the Internet a basic human right that enables individuals to ‘exercise the right to freedom of opinion and expression’.
Municipal Manager, Mr Lizo Matiwane said “the council saw it fit to roll-out Free Public Wi-Fi so that community members can have access to information and pursue economic opportunities, online education, work opportunities and various entrepreneurial opportunities. By the main targeting Matatiele youth who that bear brunt of poverty & unemployment in large numbers.”
Currently, the municipality is busy installing Free Public Wi-Fi at Ward 20 in Area C taxi rank. Installation set to complete before the end of the year 2021. The future plans include Public Wi-Fi for Cedarville town and later extend to rural Wards.
