The Eastern Cape Department of Education is investigating sexual misconduct allegations by a school principal in one of the Mount Fletcher schools. According to a statement released by the office, the department learned about the incident through social media where learners and concerned citizens reported it.
One of the affected learners posted” I am grade 12 learner at Khanya Senior Secondary School in Mount Fletcher. I am one of the students who was sexually harassed by the Principal of my school. In dealing with the issue, the department has since dispatched a team consisting of labor relations officers and governance to investigate the matter and is expected to submit a preliminary report. According to the MEC of Education, Fundile Gade the educator’s act states that should an educator be found of misconduct with a learner, dire repercussions will be considered applying the rule of law guided by the labor relations act.
