On Friday morning of October the 23rd, Khitleli allegedly ambushed his girlfriend, who was sitting in a car at the time waiting for her friend Lebo Ntoni ,an argument betwen them ensued escalating to a physical fight, which led to Khitleli withdrawing a very sharp knife, stabbing Mpharwane 14 times in the upper body, killing her in cold blood on the spot.
When children who were playing outside the house, ran to Ntoni’s house to alert her of what was happening, she instantly ran towards the couple to attempt to stop Khitleli, however, her efforts yielded nothing when she was stabbed in the head” Upon arrival, Khitleli wielded a knife on me and stabbed me in the head and I fell. I acted dead. He ran away, I then crawled to Mpharwane who seemed to have lost a lot of blood. When I tried to move her, I realised she was unconscious. The last thing I remember, I was in an ambulance, when I shouted, that’s Mparwane’s car!, said Ntoni.
A day before the incident, Makumane had visited the Maluti Police station to report her boyfriend and asked for protection from the police, however, her plea for help fell on deaf ears.
