BURNT BODY IDENTIFIED

The man whose body was found inside a burning car outside Matatiele on Tuesday last week has been identified as Xolani Mqumeni from Malubaluba location. According to reports Mqumeni was a teacher at Bavumile J.S.S. in Matatiele.

Deputy Principal of Bavumile J.S.S. Nomvuyo Matubatuba confirmed that Mqumeni was a teacher at the school since 2019. Matubatuba said Mqumeni was teaching life skills and English at grade 4,5 and 6. She described Mqumeni as a humble person who was loved even by learners. “We used to call him Tar X, Sir or Mfundisi. We got the shock of our lives on Wednesday, when receiving news of his death. We were busy with our inspectors who came to introduce a new principal to us. Although he was a quiet person but there is one thing that we will miss with him. His jokes. When opening up his mouth he will say something you never expected it will come from him and something that will make you lough your heart out”, concluded Matubatuba. Mqumeni’s memorial service will be held at Bavumile J.S.S. on Wednesday the 26th.

Mqumeni died on Tuesday the 18 of July after burning to death inside a burning vehicle. Traffic Officers who were patrolling the road on that evening saw a burning Nissan Double Cab Bakkie parked on a side walk on the way to Maluti. They called fire extinguishers to douse the fire. After the fire was extinguished the disaster officials were shocked to find out that there is a human being in the driver ‘ s seat. His upper body was burnt to no recognition.

Police found six containers of panado pills and an empty 2l of petrol inside the car. They are suspecting no foul play as a result an inquest docket has been opened. Reports are saying that Mqumeni did not a wife and children.
