Prison warder allegedly smuggles drugs into correctional facility
A 31-year-old Standerton Correctional Services Centre Prison warder is expected to appear before the Magistrate court for allegedly smuggling drugs worth R3500 into the Centre.
The suspect was arrested at his home by members from Standerton Crime Intelligence, the K9 unit, and Correctional Service personnel following up on a tip-off.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Shelvy Mohlala said a subsequent search led to the seizure of a packet of Crystal Meth, 19 plastic bags of dagga, seven cell phones, six cell phone chargers, seven sim cards, and an undisclosed amount of cash was recovered and confiscated.
Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela welcomed the arrest and added that there is no room for rotten apples in the security cluster.
