Shock as infant found in a dustbin in Matatiele
South African Police Services in Matatiele have opened a murder docket after a dead baby was discovered in a dustbin at Long Street in Matatiele on Thursday. According to eye witnesses the gruesome discovery was made by municipal workers who are responsible for waste removal.
The infant was covered in multiple plastic bags and must be few days old. The police said they have opened a murder docket and will continue with investigations. One resident who saw the unimaginable scene said the incident painted a bad picture about women.
“I could have raised the baby if the mother asked for help. I am in trauma with what I saw. Imagine carrying a baby for 9 months then come time to raise the child and you abandon the baby. I do not have children of my own but I am certain I could have raised the child well” said the lady who asked not to be mentioned.
Another woman who was at the scene said it is indescribable. “I was passing by and saw someone peep in the dustbin. I also wanted to see for myself. I am traumatized. The baby must be an infant” said the anonymous. Police are investigating who the mother of the child is, where and when the child was born.
