Shock grips Old Makhoba community as Chief Ambrose Makhoba is assassinated:

The tranquil Southern KwaZulu Natal community of Old Makhoba is in mourning following the brutal assassination of their esteemed Chief, Ambrose Makhoba, aged 63. The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday as Chief Makhoba, en route to Springfontein farm, encountered a sinister ambush by unknown assailants.

According to police reports, Chief Makhoba was met with an obstructed gate upon his arrival at the farm. As he endeavored to clear the blockade, three hooded assailants emerged, unleashing a hail of bullets upon him. In a harrowing turn of events, Chief Makhoba’s wife and child were forcibly removed from the vehicle, which was subsequently stolen and abandoned 15 kilometers away.

Despite urgent medical attention at Kokstad hospital, Chief Makhoba succumbed to his injuries upon arrival, leaving the community devastated by his untimely demise.

Chief Makhoba, revered as a trustee of the vast lands bestowed upon the Makhoba people by the democratic government in 2002, played a pivotal role in the agricultural prosperity of the region. The land, reclaimed through government-mandated restitution, flourished under his stewardship, boasting thriving maize fields and a burgeoning dairy enterprise, which supplied numerous companies with milk.

However, Chief Makhoba’s tenure was not without controversy, as tensions simmered between the residents of Old Makhoba and their counterparts in the newly established settlement. Accusations of favoritism and neglect marred his legacy, culminating in protracted legal battles in the Maritzburg High Court.

As authorities launch a fervent pursuit of the perpetrators, the legacy of Chief Ambrose Makhoba remains indelibly etched in the hearts of the Old Makhoba community, who now grapple with profound grief and uncertainty in the wake of his tragic demise.
