A drive-through memorial service of Azarial Senior Secondary School educator Mparwana Makumane will take place on Tuesday next week at Azarial S.S.S in Maluti at 10 o’clock in the morning. It is alleged that Makumane was stabbed to death on Friday morning near her workplace last week by her boyfriend Boitumello Khitleli.
Makumane’s friend who spoke on anonymity alleges that a day before Makumane was killed; she had gone to the Maluti Police Station to seek help against her abusive boyfriend but was turned away.
Station Commander of the Maluti Police Colonel Plaatjie said they are investigating allegations that Makumane was not assisted by the police. Khitleli appeared before the Maluti magistrate court on Monday and the case was postponed to the 2nd of November for the bail application. He is facing charges of murder and attempted murder. Makumane’s funeral will take place on Saturday 7 next week
