Tragedy strikes HaMasopa: Six-year-old girl fatally dragged by horse in Eastern Cape

Residents of KwaMasopa Location near Matatiele in the Eastern Cape province are in shock following the tragic death of a six-year-old girl who was dragged for kilometers by a horse. Little Itumeleng Rametsi was allegedly tied to a horse with a rope and the horse was provoked to run, dragging her along the ground.

According to reports, Itu, a grade 1 learner at Tsekong Primary School, was playing with friends on Sunday when a nine-year-old boy arrived from school and joined them. Allegedly, the boy tied a rope from the horse’s neck to Itu’s legs and then incited the horse to run, causing Itu to be dragged.

A girl who witnessed the incident immediately ran to inform adults in the community. They managed to calm the horse, but sadly, Itu had already succumbed to her injuries. It is reported that she suffered multiple fractures to her legs, neck, and head.
