Two Men Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting in Matatiele

Two suspects, Thabo Naha (23) from Lesotho and Moeti Mothibi (22) from Matatiele, made their initial appearance at the Matatiele Magistrate Court on Friday, facing multiple charges including two counts of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of ammunition.

The court heard that the pair allegedly shot and killed Fezile Jako (23) from Mvenyane, Matatiele, on Wednesday. Jako was reportedly walking on North Street, a busy area in town, when Naha and Mothibi confronted him and fired four shots at his head, resulting in his death at the scene.

Following the shooting, the suspects were pursued by local community members, Buffalo Security, and police. They were apprehended after entering a homestead on Railway Street. Authorities recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

Naha and Mothibi have been remanded in custody for further profiling and investigation. They are scheduled to return to court on September 5, 2024.
