The Department of Correctional Services (DCS), led by National Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale, is today carrying out a routine security search operation at St Albans Correctional Centre.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to detect and prevent criminal activities within correctional facilities, particularly the smuggling of contraband.
DCS said routine searches remain a critical component of its mandate to ensure safe and secure correctional centres, while also creating an environment that supports offender rehabilitation.
The department has warned members of the public against attempting to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities, stressing that those found engaging in such illegal activities will face the full might of the law.
National Commissioner Thobakgale also issued a stern warning to officials, stating that any staff member found aiding or abetting criminal activities will face disciplinary action and could be criminally charged.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity, security and accountability across all correctional facilities.
