The Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape has reported tremendous traffic volumes on major routes connecting the province with other regions and has commended motorists for their cooperation and responsible behaviour.
Traffic congestion has been particularly heavy in key corridor towns such as Komani and Maletswai, with authorities noting that the N6 has been especially affected by a steady stream of vehicles from Gauteng and other northern provinces.
Similar conditions have been observed along the R61, a vital route linking the Eastern Cape to the Western Cape through towns including Beaufort West, Aberdeen, and Graaff-Reinet.
Law enforcement officers have been strategically deployed along major routes, including the N2, the Garden Route corridor, Kei Cuttings, and the busy N10, which sees a high volume of heavy vehicles such as manganese trucks.
Officials are urging motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and take regular rest breaks during their journeys. Drivers are also encouraged to remain patient and considerate toward fellow road users to ensure safe travel during the peak period.
