The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has moved teaching and learning online from Tuesday following ongoing student protests over delayed National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) payments.
The university said online learning will continue until the end of the first term as a precaution to ensure safety while academic activities proceed.
DUT confirmed that nine protesters have been arrested since last week for public violence and vandalism. It added that 5,800 students received their allowances on March 19, with more payments scheduled for March 24 for those who have verified their details.
Despite the unrest, DUT said campuses remain open, with staff expected to report for duty and key facilities continuing to operate.
