East London in the Eastern Cape will soon be known as KuGompo City, following approval of several town name changes in the province.
This comes after Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie approved 21 geographical name changes across South Africa.
Once gazetted, East London will be renamed KuGompo City, while Graaff-Reinet will become Robert Sobukwe Town. Several other towns in the province are also being renamed.
Some of the approved town name changes include Aberdeen becoming Xamdeboo, Adendorp renamed KwaMseki Bishop Limba, and Nieu-Bethesda changing to Kwa Noheleni.
