The case of five Manguzela Full Service School educators accused of assaulting a grade 8 learner has been dismissed by the Maluti magistrate court on Thursday.
Bongani Jijana, Fikile Thobo, George Nobadina, Abongile Mpohlo, Sinethemba Mdolomba appeared before the court accused of attacking a grade 8 learner, Lisolethu Ngoma, beating him with electric cables, pipes and stones causing injuries in the body.
Court prosecutor told the magistrate that there are no prospects of prosecution because of weak evidence and the case was dismissed.
Meanwhile two teachers involved in the incident have resigned following internal investigations that are conducted by the Department. District Director in the Alfred Nzo West, Monwabisi Mbangeni confirmed the resignation of the teachers.
“I can confirm that my office has received resignation letters from two of the teachers who have been charged with grievous bodily harm. Mbangeni did not want to name the teachers but the informer can confirm that the two teachers are George Nobadina and Fikile Thobo.
According to Mbangeni the two teachers have resigned with immediate effect. “We have accepted their resignation and they are now out of the department of education’s system”, Mbangeni said.
The incident happened in February, 19 this year. On their first court appearance, they were released on warning
The department of education has still not finalised with their internal investigation on the matter.
