The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned Ngizwe Mchunu’s statements suggesting that party leader Julius Malema is unwelcome in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Mchunu stirred controversy by declaring himself a “border gate” and vowing to stop Malema from campaigning in the province. He said Malema should not be invited to the EFF’s manifesto launch in KZN and criticised him for addressing Zulu audiences in English instead of isiZulu, which he called disrespectful to the people of the province.
The EFF dismissed Mchunu’s remarks as reckless and unconstitutional, stressing that no individual can restrict the movement or political participation of leaders anywhere in South Africa. The party warned that such statements risk inflaming divisions along linguistic and regional lines and undermine democratic values.
Despite the controversy, the EFF confirmed that its planned programmes in KZN, including Malema’s participation, will proceed as scheduled.
