Emergency Medical Officials Produced Fraudulent Documents To get employment

The East London based Serious Corruption Investigation Unit of the Hawkes has arrested six Emergency Medical Services officials for allegedly producing fraudulent documents to get employment in the Health Department. The Officials aged between 42 and 54 were successfully appointed to work at the Emergency medical Care Services. They were all arrested on Monday the 21 August
Hawkes Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said Eastern Cape Department of Health advertised 730 positions for Emergency Medical Care Service Officers from all eight districts of the Eastern Cape Province in December 2014. The requirements for the positions were inter alia grade 12 or equivalent certificate.
Mhlakuvana said the six officials applied for the posts. They were interviewed, shortlisted and employed. They started on their positions on April 2015”, said Mhlakuvana. He said on March 2022 the officials were requested to submit their original certificates. “The department embarked on verification of qualification where their grade 12 certificates were declared fraudulent and the matter was referred to Hawkes for investigation.
The investigation further revealed that the Department of health was prejudiced cash to more than R7,9 million. The six will make their first court appearance at the Zwelitsha Magistrate court on Tuesday the 22 august 2023
