Explosion kills 22-year-old man in Promosa
Police in Ikageng are investigating a fatal explosion incident that occurred in Promosa on Saturday evening, 10 January 2026.
According to information received from a witness, a male resident (aged 22) was allegedly cutting metal pieces with an electric grinder in his yard for recycling purposes, when a loud bang was suddenly heard. Upon inspection, the man was found lying on the ground with multiple open wounds and he was unresponsive. He was rushed to Promosa Clinic and subsequently declared dead on arrival.
Police were notified of the incident, and a further inspection of the area was conducted by experts from the Explosive Unit. The examination revealed the presence of shrapnel consistent with a nose fuse of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) device.
Police urge community members to refrain from collecting unidentified items, particularly in areas located near military training facilities.
