Drugs worth R2 Million seized in Gqeberha bust, suspect on the run

GQEBERHA, Eastern Cape – 09 April 2026 – Members of the South African Police Service in Mount Road, working alongside a private security company, have seized drugs with an estimated street value of R2 million during an operation in Cotswold.

The bust took place on Wednesday evening, 8 April 2026, at around 20:29 in Woodpecker Street.

According to police, officers were conducting routine patrols when they were flagged down by a private security company. The security officers had reportedly searched a male foreign national after his suspicious behaviour at a storage locker triggered an alarm.

As SAPS members arrived on the scene, the suspect allegedly dropped a black plastic bag and fled by jumping over a high wall. He has not yet been apprehended.

Police proceeded to search both the storage locker and the discarded bag, leading to the confiscation of a substantial quantity of drugs. The seized items include 217 grams of crack cocaine, 889.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 303 kilograms of compressed dagga.

In addition, a red Mini Cooper believed to be linked to the operation was impounded.

The total estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is approximately R2 million.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, and investigations are ongoing.
