Father sentenced to 20 years for murdering his two-year-old son

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the sentencing of 24-year-old Thabang Hendrick Letsebe for the murder of his two-year-old biological son in Limpopo.
Letsebe, from Shongoane village near Lephalale, was sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment by the Polokwane High Court on 05 May 2026.

According to the NPA, police responded to a call from a community member on 06 October 2024 and discovered the lifeless body of the toddler at a residence in Shongoane village. Letsebe, who is the child’s father, was found at the scene and immediately arrested.

The sentence follows a Section 105A plea and sentencing agreement reached between the State and the accused.
Limpopo Director of Public Prosecutions Ivy Thenga praised the investigator and prosecutor involved in the matter, saying the crime had deeply affected the community.

“The National Prosecuting Authority remains steadfast in prioritising crimes against vulnerable children and will continue to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable,” she said.
