Five suspects aged between 25 and 35 have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East.
According to South African Police Service spokesperson Novela Potelwa, the suspects face charges of murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
The arrests were made early on Monday, 9 March, during a tracing operation launched after the shooting on Disa Road. Police also recovered two firearms during the operation.
Authorities believe the motive for the shooting may be linked to extortion. The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the murders and other crimes.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
