Four suspects wanted for a series of serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder on police officers, car and truck hijackings, and business and house robberies, were shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police in Bellair on Monday afternoon, 23 March 2026.
Crime Intelligence officers reportedly spotted the suspects in the Bellair area and acted on the information. The suspects, who were terrorizing communities in Mbumbulu, KwaMakhutha, Ntuzuma, and Folweni, allegedly defied police orders to stop, prompting a high-speed vehicle chase. The pursuit ended at a house used by the suspects as a hideout, where a shootout with police ensued.
Four suspects were fatally wounded during the confrontation, while a fifth suspect narrowly evaded arrest and remains at large. Police have recovered four firearms from the scene.
Authorities confirmed that no police officers were injured during the operation, which is part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in the region.
