On Sunday, 29 March, at around 15:45, Crime Prevention members located a stolen silver VW Polo in Rosedale, Chris Hani residential area, with the assistance of a tracking system. The 33-year-old male suspect, who had removed the vehicle’s registration plates and license disk, was arrested on the spot.
In another incident, on Saturday, 28 March, at approximately 06:00, when a 30-year-old man was kidnapped at Mbana locality, Zimbane A/A. The victim was allegedly assaulted by three men, aged 26 to 28, before being forced into the boot of a Toyota Tazz and later abandoned in a local donga. Police said the attack was reportedly over a cellphone. The victim survived and was hospitalized with severe injuries.
All four suspects now face charges, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended the swift response of the police, noting that all suspects were apprehended within 72 hours of the crimes.
