Shock and grief have gripped Kwazakhele after four young people were gunned down in what police have described as a targeted attack on Monday night.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that officers responded to a complaint in Tonjeni Street at approximately 21:15 on 2 March 2026. On arrival, they were directed by private security officers to an outside room at the back of a property, where they discovered the bodies of four victims.
The deceased include three males aged between 18 and 22, and a 24-year-old woman. All four sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene.
The brutal killings have heightened concerns about ongoing violent crime in parts of Gqeberha, with community members calling for increased police visibility and swift arrests.
The Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit in Gqeberha has taken over the investigation. At this stage, the motive remains unclear and no suspects have been arrested.
