The Department of Home Affairs has rolled out Smart ID services to 110 bank branches nationwide, surpassing its target of 100 by the end of March 2026.

First National Bank has joined Capitec Bank and Standard Bank in the initiative, which has already processed over 25,000 applications.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber said the programme will continue to grow, with Absa Bank and Nedbank expected to join soon.
