Initiation school assistant jailed 18 years for sexual assault

The South African Police Service has welcomed the 18-year prison sentence handed down to 33-year-old Lenyatso Kase for sexually assaulting a teenage initiate at a traditional school in Malebogo.

The conviction follows a thorough investigation by the Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit into the incident, which took place on 21 December 2023 at about 23:00. The 17-year-old victim was attending a gathering at the initiation school when Kase, who was assisting teachers at the facility, forced his way into the teenager’s blankets and sexually assaulted him.

Kase allegedly threatened the victim afterward, warning him not to report the incident. The teenager remained silent until the initiation period ended and later came forward with the support of a friend.

The case was investigated by Sergeant Lydia Selemogo of the FCS Unit in Bultfontein. Working closely with the National Prosecuting Authority, represented in court by Prosecutor Mr. Masisi, the State secured a guilty verdict, resulting in Kase being sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.
